Quality education is vitally important to any community, and Okmulgee County is no exception. We have nine public school districts and one private school in Okmulgee County, as well as Green Country Technology Center and OSUIT.

Okmulgee Public Schools boasts a state of the art STEM Lab at Dunbar Campus (5th-7th) to enhance the advancement of science, technology, engineering and math studies. The Okmulgee High School ACE program is an exciting and innovative contemporary learning environment. It is one of the first personalized learning programs in Oklahoma. A personalized learning program, students acquire the learning and skills that are needed in today’s rapidly changing world and helps students find solutions to problems independently. Personalized learning has emerged as perhaps the most promising innovation in education.

For those students seeking vocational programs, the Green Country Technology Center has been serving Okmulgee county high school students (as well as adult students) for over 20 years.   Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology is available for those that wish to pursue associates or bachelor’s degrees. The College of Muscogee Nation, while primarily focused on members of a Native American tribe, also offers programs to non-tribal students.

Green Country Technology Center (GCTC)

 

Green Country Technology Center (GCTC) in Okmulgee has proudly served the vocational training and workforce development needs of Okmulgee County for over 30 years. Working closely with local employers, especially in manufacturing and industrial sectors, GCTC helps prepare both high school and adult students for today’s workforce and tomorrow’s opportunities.

GCTC is one of 29 accredited technology center districts across Oklahoma, governed by the Oklahoma Department of Career and Technology Education. Full-time educational programs include:

  • Licensed Practical Nursing

  • Health Careers Certification

  • Medical Assisting

  • Construction Trades

  • CNC Manufacturing

  • Welding

  • Programming & Video Game Development

  • Cosmetology

  • HVAC

Transportation Training
GCTC offers a 28-day Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) course, now 220 hours in duration. It is a designated DPS Driver License Exam site for both the written and driving tests.

​

Flexible Adult Education
GCTC also provides adult education through short-term classes offered during the day and evening, as well as self-paced training through its FLEX Lab. Courses range from safety and health to computer skills and more, with options customized for business and industry needs.

​

Customized Industry Training
Through its Business and Industry Services (BIS) Department, GCTC delivers tailored safety and industrial training to meet specific workforce demands. Two key programs support local industry:

  • Training for Industry Program (TIP): Offers grant-funded, high-quality training to approved companies that are either new to Oklahoma or expanding their in-state operations and workforce, resulting in net-new jobs.

  • Training for Industry Growth Program (TIG): Provides grant support to companies addressing industry-identified skilled labor shortages. This program funds customized training within a targeted geographic region.

GCTC is also an Oklahoma State Department of Labor Weld Testing Facility, adding another layer of value to regional employers and skilled trades professionals.

Gold Star School Recognition
GCTC is proud to be a Gold Star School recipient for 2023 and 2024, a distinction awarded by the Oklahoma Association of Career and Technology Education. This honor recognizes technology center districts that meet rigorous criteria for excellence, with programs designed to serve a wide range of community needs. GCTC has applied for the 2025 award and is awaiting confirmation.

 

Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology (OSUIT)

 

Oklahoma State University Institute of Technology (OSUIT) is Oklahoma’s premier university for applied technology and a cornerstone of the region’s workforce pipeline. It's also a Top 10 Military Friendly School, with a Gold designation, and was ranked No. 3 nationally by Military Times in 2024 for “Best for Vets” among career and technical colleges. OSUIT graduates leave with some of the lowest average student debt in the state—around $12,000.

College of the Muscogee Nation (CMN)

 

The College of the Muscogee Nation is dedicated to helping students achieve their academic and career goals by providing a quality learning environment sensitive to their rich tribal culture, language and history. Students, community, and Muscogee (Creek) people are the true foundation for every class taught, every degree offered and every service provided at the college. CMN maintains a tribal college (also open to the public) that embraces excellence.
